This image represents horizontal lines, horizontal lines imply tranquillity, peace and harmony. This represents these things because it shows someone lying or sitting still which can represent peace as they are staying still. Also, the light that is reflecting onto the legs isn't portraying harsh lines which could also represent tranquillity. This image inspires my work because I think the way the shadows reflect onto the girl is a good idea as it almost shows us that humans and nature are linked together. This links to the lines as it shows horizontal lines forming across her legs.

This photograph shows vertical lines, vertical lines imply power and strength. The image represents these qualities because the pillars have overpowered the person walking by. She is almost non-existent as she blends in with the pillars. This has inspired my work because it shows that the man-made things has ultimate strength and almost stops the girl from escaping the pillars shadows. This image links to the line subject because the pillars are vertical lines, but also the shadows can also be seen to represent horizontal lines on the floor.

This image uses curved and S shaped lines, curved lines or S shaped lines imply quiet, calm and sensual feelings. This image shows these qualities because although we see a road we don't see any cars, this creates a quiet atmosphere because we think about how silent the place would be. Also, the fact that the road is in the middle of nowhere creates these feeling because we see that nothing is going on in the picture. This links to the line image because the road is in the shape of an S. It has inspired my work because the first impression of something we have may not be the same impression we have when we look deeper into the image.

This image uses converging lines, converging lines imply depth, scale and distance. This image links to these qualities because it takes the picture in a way that we are unclear of how tall the trees are and if they will ever end. It links in with the line subject because the trees are so tall that the way we look at them it is almost as if at the end they all come together. This has inspired my work because it has helped me realise that if you take a picture of something but at a different angle you can create depth, scale and distance.

This image represents diagonal lines, diagonal lines imply movement, action and change. This picture represents these qualities because where the diagonal lines meet it forms an arrow. The arrow shape formed can be linked to action and direction. This image links to the line subject because it has used diagonal lines. The image has influenced my work because it shows how to take pictures at different angles to create the lines I am looking for.

Line Straight Images

I took this image of a table tennis net because of the use of horizontal and vertical lines. I think this is one of my best images because although the net is the main focus of the image our eyes are also draw to the shadow that the net creates. Horizontal lines show tranquillity, peace and harmony, this is displayed in the image because the light creates a peaceful atmosphere as we are not certain if there is anything else going on in the image. Vertical lines imply power and strength, the fact that the main focus is on a net this shows these qualities because a net is strong and nothing can pass through it you can only go over it or around it. 

I took this image of a bench because it displays horizontal lines. I think this is one of my best pictures because it links to the meaning of horizontal lines very well. Horizontal lines show tranquillity, peace and harmony, a bench links to these qualities because people sit on bench quietly, benches aren't linked to loud disruptive things. With some editing from Photoshop I think I can make this image look good.

This image shows horizontal and vertical lines. Horizontal lines show tranquillity, peace and harmony, this image represents these qualities because it shows part of a door and a door can be seen to shut out loudness so behind the door can be this tranquil and peaceful place that we are thinking of. I think this is one of my best pictures because it displays both types of lines very well.

This image shows horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines. Horizontal lines show tranquillity, peace and harmony, this is displayed in the picture because the paving slabs are messed up and all over the place, it is almost like the horizontal line that goes through the messed up pavement calms it down. Also, vertical lines show power and strength, the vertical lines of the pavement slabs are keeping them strong and the horizontal line through almost weakens them. Diagonal lines imply movement, action and change, the fact that it's a pavement shows movement and actions as people have to move across the pavement. This is one of my best pictures because I think that it has various types of lines included in the picture.

This picture displays diagonal and vertical lines. Diagonal lines imply movement, action and change, the fact that these are stairs shows people move up and down the stairs and change their location when they use the stairs. Vertical lines imply power and strength, the fact that the foundation is vertical shows that for people to move they need the foundations and the vertical lines are the most powerful. This is one of my best pictures because it shows how strong the vertical lines are.

Evaluation
The focus of my photographs was lines, horizontal, vertical, curved, diagonal and converging lines. I was concentrating on each of the different lines and making sure that I included a least one of the types of line in my photographs. Personally, I think the majority of my photographs have followed the focus of the topic well but some have not turned out the way that I would've liked them to. Some ideas that I had didn't work as well as other ideas that I had.

This image that I have taken worked particularly well because it has more than one different type of line in the picture. The main focus of the picture is the square patterns which include horizontal and vertical lines. However, another focus of the image is the shadow that the squares reflect onto the table, this also produces lines but not as clear as the square lines. Also, in the background of the photo we can see a wall which also uses line because it has vertical and horizontal lines. I think this is one of my best photographs because it is taken well as the main focus of the image is in focus and is clear.

This image that I have taken worked particularly well because it has more that one different type of line. The main focus is the floor pattern because this is the only thing you can see. However, there are many types lines within the image. The shape of each tile on the floor includes horizontal and vertical lines. As well as this, as the tiles join up they also create a line within them that almost goes off diagonally. I think this is one of my best photographs because it includes many different lines within the picture and the whole picture is in focus.

I think this image is not one of my best photographs because it is unclear of what the main focus of the image is and it doesn't include clear images of the lines that are included. To improve this image I think that I could've taken the image closer to the curved lines so it is clear what I was trying to make the main focus. Also, in this picture I think the background ruins the picture, if I was closer to the curved lines and reduced what was in the picture I think this picture would be one of my best.

Progression
To progress the images that I took I then used photoshop to edit the photos to try and improve them. 

            

I saturated and brightened this picture to give it this effect and to make the horizontal and vertical lines bolder. To improve this image I think I could've taken it at a different angle to try and create a more significant shadow. Also, to improve the editing of the image I think I could've made the background black and white to bring the main focus out more.

To this picture I made the pavement tiles black and white and increased the contrast of the horizontal line going through the middle. To improve this image I think I could take it from a different angle to make the horizontal seem vertical. Also, to improve the editing I could make the line going through black and white instead of the pavement.

    

To this picture I made the background black and white and increased the contrast of the bench. To improve the picture I could've taken the picture closer up to take away the shadows that are created and lessen the background. Also, to improve the editing I would've cropped the picture to create a better main focus but I think the black and white effect was good.

    

To improve this picture I could've zoomed in on curved lines of the picture to make the main focus of the picture better. I edited this picture by just simply making in black and white, to improve the editing I could've made only parts of the picture black and white to make it stand out more.

    

To improve this picture I could've incorporated more things into the picture instead of just the pavement. I edited this picture by making it black and white and then just darkening the picture. To improve the editing next time I could've cropped the picture and made it focus on just one section.

Next time I am able to take pictures using this topic I will make these improvements to the photos. 

Line Definitions

A line represents a "path" between two points.

A line can be straight, curved, vertical, horizontal, diagonal, or zigzag.

Lines imply motion and suggest direction or orientation.

A line can also be implied and is then filled in by the mind when several points are position geometrically within a frame.

Placing four dots on a page in the shape of a square can imply the points are linked as the mind searches for recognisable patterns.

Horizontal lines imply tranquility, peace and harmony. This picture shows this because it is a calm picture with horizontal lines, it also shows peace and harmony because the girl is sleeping, there are no harsh things to wake her up.


Vertical lines imply power and strength. This picture proves this because it shows a horizontal gate, the gate shows power and strength because nobody can get past the gate it is dominant against most things.


Diagonal lines imply movement, action and change. This picture proves this because its shows a zebra crossing which implies movement as people have to walk across it it only involves movement of people. This is an example of a leading line.


Curved lines or S shaped lines imply quiet, calm and sensual feelings. This image proves this because it shows a calm landscape with a curved road going through, this shows quietness because the image shows there to be nothing going on except one woman walking through.


Lines that converge imply depth, scale and distance - a fence or roadway converges into the distance provides the illusion that a flat two-dimensional image has three-dimensional depth. This image proves this because we cannot see the end of the platform, by using the converging lines we cannot tell if this platform ends or not as it seems to be ongoing and never-ending.

My Best Photographs

I have chosen these pictures as my best 5 pictures because they each have different focuses and some are very similar pictures but others are different. Most of these images have relations to nature because they were all taken outside.

This is one of my best photographs because I like how the focus of the image has changed from the foreground to the background. The main focus of this image is the background because the foreground is not in focus. This could symbolise to us how sometimes what is in front of us isn't always the main picture but if we look deeper we can see things in more depth.


I also like this photo of broken concrete tiles. The colours in the image are very dull and none of the colours really stand out but the main focus of the image is the broken tiles. This could symbolise people as not one tile is the same. The fact that they are all broken could suggest heartbreak.


This is also one of my best photographs because everything you can see in the photo is visible and nothing is out of focus. In this photo you can see green flowers, this could represent nature and everything to do with nature. The light green in the photo stands out the most and the fact that the colours in the picture are all green shows how the importance of something can be changed by little details.


I have chosen this photo as one of my best photographs because the focus of the picture is not only on the flower but the leaves are also in focus. Mainly the foreground has been focused and the background is not visible. I like how the camera has focused on the water droplets of the flower. Water droplets could represent tears and a pink flower could represent love, so overall this could symbolise a heart break.


I like this photo because the main focus is on the flowers which represents the nature. There are flowers in the photo which represent nature and happiness. The colour of this flower is pink, this could represent love and happiness as pink is a symbol of valentines which is revolved around love.


This photo is my worst photo because it doesn't show anything. I feel like there is nothing that I can analyse within this photo because it doesn't show anything to me. Also this is a photo that is not taken very well because  part of the camera is visible in the corner. To improve this photo I think I could take a picture similar to this of my feet but have some flowers in the photo or something that I can analyse.


Photoshop Images


I used Photoshop to change this image, by making the girl black and white the background of the photo becomes more of the main focus of the image. In Photoshop I unsaturated the blues and the reds which caused the girl to become black and white and then I brightened the colours. Also, I increased the contrast of the image and also saturated the lighter colours such as the greens and the yellows. Overall I am happy with this outcome because I feel like I have made the picture better.



I used Photoshop to change this image, by making the background black and white the main focus goes onto the flower. I increased the contrast of the image to make it brighter and I unsaturated the reds, greens and yellows in the picture which turned the background black and white. Also parts of the flower are also dark colours, this suggests to us that the flower is beginning to blend in with the background almost like it is being dragged into the darkness. Overall I am happy with this outcome because I feel like I have made the picture better.
