Joiners Definition

Joiners (for which the terms panography and panograph have been used) is a photographictechnique in which one picture is assembled from several overlapping photographs.

In the early 1980s, Hockney began to produce photo collages, which he called "joiners," first of Polaroid prints and later of 35mm, commercially processed color prints.

This image shows joiners because several different images have been taken of the man. By putting all the images together we can see the different movements of the old man. The joiners create a puzzle and we have to look closely at each joiner to establish what each part shows. Each picture shows something different, they all fit together to form a picture.
